IN HIS GRIP: S.O.S.
How long will I try
to stand firm
On this shaking ground
As I wait for You
To sway your rope
Lower
So I could cling
How long will I try
To stifle my sobs
And smile
When all the while,
As minutes go by
My heart’s tattered
To more pieces
How long will I wait
How long will I wait
To see Your light
To hear Your voice
To feel Your grip
How long
How long
Oh, Lord
Come rescue me…
I wrote this poem in one of the “down” moments of my
life. It felt like water was already up to my chin yet I couldn’t swim. It felt
like the ground I was standing on would crumble down at any moment and I had
nothing to hold on to. It was painful. Everything was uncertain. And everything
felt hopeless. I felt afraid.
It felt like a high time to give up. It was tempting to
just run away and hide.
Yet over and over, I remind myself that I wasn’t the only
person in the world. Definitely, there are people who are suffering more than I
do. I felt that have no right to whine. Hardships and trials are like rain. It
falls on everyone. No one is exempted.
“I am with you.”
“Be strong and courageous.”
“Do not be afraid.”
God has said these over and over and over in the Bible –
giving His people hope, strength, and light. He said these again and again so
that the foundation of His people’s faith in Him would become solid and
unshaken.
God wanted His people to know that He is faithful, that
He is a powerful and compassionate God who has heard their calls of distress
and has come to their rescue.
He allows His people to get through the hard times… so
that they could trust Him. And time would come, when their faith in Him was
already established – His people would be able to praise Him – in good times or
in bad, in laughter or in tears – because they already know their God.
“I am His daughter. He is my father and my God,” I said
to myself.
The knowledge of this became the solid rock that I stand
upon as the storm rages. Though shivering with cold, I will not be shaken by
its strong winds. I will wait upon the Lord. He will surely come to my rescue.
Because the Lord has promised. “I am with you.”
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah
41:10
